You can't go to the Himalayas without hearing some local stories and folklore. And Bagji Bugyal has one of its own. Villagers in the area talk about a time, 60 to 70 years ago, when tigers (Bagh in the local language) used to roam freely around the meadows.
Tribal shepherds used to stay away from the bugyal because they didn't want their flock, or worse, themselves, to be eaten by these cats. To make these bugyal stand out, they gave them the name Bagji Bugyal. The precise meaning is "tiger meadows." Sadly, the tigers are gone.
What makes this hike distinctive are the deep virgin forests, babbling streams, stunning campsites, and endless meadows. Ali and Bedni Bugyal are well-known among hikers, but when you add Bagji to the mix, you get a fantastic trifecta of high-altitude alpine meadows. The huge meadows on this 6-day walk will simply blow your mind. You will feel like you have entered a different universe.
